Meetings are on the first Tuesday of each month, at 10am at members’ homes

These meetings follow a format where members each present their personal review of a book of their choice. The choice of books reviewed at meetings generally cover the full range from a variety of non-fiction through to fiction of all genres so there is always something of interest to everyone.

Lively discussion ensues! As noted in the historic quote alongside, even though readers can have read the same words, it is possible for their meaning to have been interpreted from multiple different perspectives. This is in fact the essence of a book group. We are always respectful of each other’s reading choices and opinions and the meetings are relaxed and enjoyable.

The exposure in meetings to a range of books and an exchange of opinions about them is both thought-provoking and entertaining. Inevitably members go away with a list of books they would like to read (or not!) The ‘would like to read’ choices are probably added to an ever-growing existing list gleaned from multiple sources. As many of us are creatures of habit, individual lists tend towards our favourite genres and topics but the Book Talk group means the list not only grows in number but also in diversity as we are introduced to the range of topics and genres that may otherwise not have attracted attention.

The two Warkworth u3a book groups are currently at capacity so we are establishing a combined waiting list for prospective members. As the two groups are run on the same book group model, applicants to join the waiting list can opt to register for both groups, or given the different timing of the meetings (Book Talk 10am on the first Tuesday of the month, Book Lovers 2pm on the first Wednesday of the month) they may state a preference for the morning or afternoon group.
